As her Sticky & Sweet tour rolls into Europe this summer, we take a closer look at what the Queen of Pop might be getting up to on those all-important days off. Darius Lizborn reports

So, you’re Madonna. You’ve packed a suitcase full of leather corsets for your Sticky & Sweet tour which hits Europe this August, and booked a bumper botox session for turning 50. Here at Ryanair Magazine we couldn’t let this momentous summer of Madge go unnoticed. To honour the yogatrix and her contribution to the soundtrack of our lives we drew up the perfect itinerary for her precious days off the tour bus. Maybe she’ll be humming some of these tracks along the way?

TRACK 01
Justify My Love

TOUR CITY Nice
STOP THE BUS FOR Nice Flower Market

Almost every morning, in the heart of the old city and one block from the Quai des Etats-Unis boulevard that runs along the Mediterranean Sea, there are flowers to remind Madonna how much she’s worth it. We suggest she grabs some African daisies for young son David and some marigolds for Guy (who obviously wears them indoors). And for herself ? “Prince reeks of lavender. It turned me on, actually,” she once said of the singer. So, that’s decided, then. The Nice blooms come from the foothills of the Alps, where 500 million cut flowers are harvested each year – so there’s plenty of lavender to stash under her pillow and keep her aroused the rest of the tour.

TRACK 02
Get Into The Groove

TOUR CITY Berlin
STOP THE BUS FOR vinyl at Rock Steady Records

Rock Steady Records may just help Madonna find that gem of a 45” to inspire her next hit… or a Like a Virgin picture disc to remind her of the good old days. Either way, the woman knows the value of a good sample. She was only the second artist that Abba approved to rip off their riffs (Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! in Hung Up), and Madge also let Danni Minogue use a sample of Get Into The Groove (why, we have no idea). Rock Steady is a kitsch places that specialises in 1970s/1980s vinyl, and sorts by micro-styles and kindred spirits – like The Cure with Siouxsie and the Banshees.

TRACK 03
Espresso Yourself

TOUR CITY Rome
STOP THE BUS FOR a gran caffè at Bar Sant’Eustachio

OK, so we took a liberty with this one. But a 50-year-old with that much energy must have been espressoing herself. She’s forever being “papped” carrying iced coffee, and a few years ago she took a nasty fall on her bike trying to chuck a wheelie and slurp a Starbucks at the same time. Silly girl. We think it’s a better idea she try Bar Sant’Eustachio, which is plastered with celeb testimonials.

The water for the coffee is channelled into the city by an aqueduct built in 19BC, and this is what espresso judges say accounts for its perfect cup of €1 coffee. Sugary and foamy, the gran caffè requires a finger to scrape out the last of it – not made of milk, but by the coffee itself whipped with the sugar. No trying to steer a scooter with a takeaway in your hand though.
