Knight to remember

Falstaff

Sardinia harks back to merry old England this summer, as Cagliari Opera House puts on a production of Verdi’s Falstaff (30 May–8 June). Lead roles come from Dutch bassbaritone Harry Peeters and Italian performer Michele Pertusi.

Smithwick’s Cat Laughs Comedy Festival, Kilkenny

Dubbed the “best little comedy festival in the world”, top names include Tommy Tiernan, Ardal O’Hanlon, Josie Long and Rich Hall. Make sure to catch the comics’ annual footy match on the Sunday, and the press conference where managers and captains review the previous year’s debacle, before Ireland take on the Rest of the World in a celebrity comedy football death-match, with lots of fire, probably.
