We caught up with Jence, from the Hamburg indie dance duo.

FIRST FESTIVAL: “A techno parade in Hamburg called G-Move. It was full of weird people in platform trainers. We took the piss out of them. It was pretty funny.”

BEST FESTIVAL: “The Parklife touring festival of 2007 in Australia. All the bands hung out with each other, going to different cities. M.I.A. and Justice were there, too.”

WORST FESTIVAL: “The Ultra festival in Miami. It could have been great, but we weren’t able to set up properly and the sound was really bad.”

WHAT TO LISTEN OUT FOR: “A new Digitalism song. It hasn’t got a name yet, but you can recognise it, because it’s got the sound of some monks in it.”

DIGITALISM PLAY: Among other dates, Gatecrasher’s Summer Sound System, UK (24–25 May), Roskilde (3–6 July) and Reading Festival, UK (22–24 August). Their Pogo remixes are out 26 May.

WORST FESTIVAL: “One with drunk young people. At some festivals you don’t have time to do a sound check – add to that an audience that is completely drunk and it’s not good. If the audience could be quiet, that would be really perfect.”

BEST FESTIVAL: “When I was a child I heard of the Isle of Wight, and the name inspired me, because it made me think of an island in the Pacific. I’ve been there now and it’s not at all like that, but it’s cool. It’s not a lot of young people completely drunk. It was a sweet festival with a big smile.”

NEW LIVE SECRETS: “I’ve recorded a sexual album, Sexuality, so I want to excite my audience, but my physique is not good for everybody, so I don’t want to break the fantasy. So, I’m there on stage, but behind a lot of smoke and a laser show.”
