Citystay MARRAKESH
Interior-designed riads, rooftop terraces and plenty of Moroccan hospitality awaits you!

On a Budget
Jnane Mogador

Some travel agents may insist that you cannot get reasonably stylish riad accommodation in the medina for less than €200, but they’d be wrong. This little gem is often booked solidly, as it offers a slice of the riad experience without giving your bank account a battering. Although not nearly as stunning as some of the new wave of riads, Jnane Mogador is still an attractive place to stay. Rooms are decorated in traditional Moroccan style, and for a little extra you can relax in the hammam and enjoy a range of treatments. Breakfast is up on the roof terrace, which offers great views, too.

DOUBLES FROM 380 DIRHAMS (€33), BREAKFAST 40 DIRHAMS (€3.5) PP. TEL: +212 (0)24 426 323, WWW.JNANEMOGADOR.COM

Cream of the Crop
Maison MK

Opened in February, this avant-garde riad is the brainchild of a pair of fashion photographers who came to Marrakesh on a shoot and fell in love with the place.

There are six bespoke suites, which come with cool extras like a dedicated iPod stereo system and a complimentary mobile phone to call the staff on if you get lost. The terrace has views of the medina skyline and Koutoubia mosque, and is laden with soft, stylish cushions. Then there are the massages enjoyed in two dedicated courtyard treatment rooms, as well as first-class dining options. The only downside is that you might feel like you don’t want to bother going anywhere else during your stay.

DOUBLES FROM 3,445 DIRHAMS (€300) A NIGHT, INCLUDING BREAKFAST. TEL: +212 (0)24 376 173, WWW.MAISONMK.COM.

Not Breaking the Bank
Riad Meriem

After five years serving the needs of the mainly middle-aged tourist market, Riad Meriem stepped up its game last year thanks to a new American owner. The investment has brought a range of bespoke décor details to this charming traditional riad in one of the least-explored corners of the medina. New York designer Thomas Hays calls Meriem his “labour of love”, and real care has gone into selecting the best of his own pan-African photographical work, as well as textiles from Cameroon and Uzbekistan. Personal service is key, with English manager Cyrus and an ultra-friendly local team of Hassan, Karim and Najet. Hassan insists that he will come and find guests if they are lost in the maze-like medina, day or night!

DOUBLES FROM 2,410 DIRHAMS (€210) A NIGHT, INCLUDING BREAKFAST. TEL: +212 (0)24 387 731, WWW.RIADMERIEM.COM
